Swatara Wastewater Treatment Plant
The Swatara Water Pollution Control Plant involved upgrades and modifications of the existing plant.
The Swatara Township Authority’s Water Pollution Control Plant in Swatara Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania contained an existing 6.3 MGD wastewater treatment plant when Worth & Company arrived onsite in 2009. The upgrades and modifications consisted of converting this low load activated sludge process, which was designed for secondary treatment and nitrification, to a biological nutrient removal (BNR) process.
The project included the construction of a new Solids Handling Building at a location on the Swatara Township property outside of the existing fencing. This area houses a Centrifuge, Dryer System, Polymer System, Odor Control System, Utility Water Pumps, a Dried Sludge Storage Silo with feed conveyors, as well as an operator’s office and electrical room.
In total, 15 tanks were renovated and one added; three new buildings were constructed; and over 50 new underground pipe runs were installed with at least 22 pipes relocated during construction. The Worth team overcame countless obstacles, while keeping the Plant operational during the process.
