Shiseido Pilot Plant
The Shiseido Pilot Plant Project is a 4,500 square foot fit-out/renovation of the existing cosmetics manufacturing facility in East Windsor, New Jersey.
Owned by Shiseido Americas, this highly specialized project was an extension of piping systems Worth & Company, Inc. previously installed in 2016, as part of an expansion project for the customer. All lab supply and exhaust systems as well as the associated equipment were added, including the dust collection system which was an extension of the 2016 installed system as well.
The project team applied the usage of VDC and Building Information Modeling (BIM) to interpret the design documents and create modular fabrication drawings for the process piping and ductwork systems. The entire process piping loops were prefabricated in our controlled, offsite fabrication facility and delivered in modules for final field placement. The lab wall support and electrical/process support structures were also integrated with our piping support modular system for seamless and efficient field installation. Construction scheduling was controlled with preplanning and design reviews throughout the fabrication and installation process, minimizing onsite staff and allowing a seamless installation.
The primary challenges on this project were the design changes from the process engineer, throughout the fabrication process, to accommodate the customer’s final process needs. Scheduling and logistics became issues for the Worth project team as well; however, Worth & Company utilized its highly acclaimed VDC department to build and model each piece of pipe and duct from ground up, prior to fabrication.
