U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey praised Worth & Co. in Pipersville during a tour of the 40,000-square-foot facility June l3. He said the company exemplifies creativity and illustrates the need for tax policy changes and regulatory reform.  Stephen Worth owner and chief executive officer’ of Worth & Co hosted the tour.

Worth & Co. is a mechanical contracting industry that provides a fully integrated team effort from design to construction and installation. A concept called Integrated Project Delivery comprises the framework within which all the design and prefabrication elements come together.

Using building information modeling (BIM) technology, a two-dimensional sketch is converted to a three-dimensional computer model. A computer-aided design (CAD) program creates an efficient virtual assembly, which is electronically transmitted to the machine shop for actual construction.

“Every day I ask how we can do it better and faster and be more competitive,” said Worth, who founded the company in 1983.

Toomey proclaimed that the innovative approach at Worth “makes them more efficient and that saves money for people who need to build buildings, whether that’s governments or colleges or hospitals or private companies.”

While the company employs almost 500 people, Toomey speculated it could employ even more with increased demand for the type of construction services they offer.

Alluding to the slow economy, Toomey squarely laid some of the blame at Washington.

“We need certainty about tax policy, about regulatory policy,” Toomey said. “Washington is preventing us from having the job growth that we ought to have.”

Toomey said he was focused on reducing the “onerous regulation and uncertainty.” Worth & Co. highlights how important that effort is, he said.

“Even in this tough economy, we’re still expanding,” Worth said. “My hardest job is keeping everybody employed in today’s environment.”
